PORTLAND, Ore. — Kickoff times and TV rights are set for Oregon's three non-conference games to start the 2024 football season.
Each of those games has Oregon fans talking — each for different reasons.
High-level themes in the fan chatter include a couple of obvious narratives:
Week 1: Idaho at Oregon — Folks are excited for the season-opener and counting down the days to kickoff.
Week 3: Oregon at Oregon State — All the usual Little Brother digs and sadness for the demise of the former Conference of Champions.
When it comes to Boise State, there are some standard themes that Oregon fans will no doubt circulate again at some point soon:
2008: The Boise State late hit that knocked Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli out of the game.
2009: The Punch.
Even before kickoff, the 2024 season hatched a more or less new talking point from Oregon fans — Ducks and Broncos and ... Peacock?
That's right, the Sept. 7 Boise State at Oregon game will stream on the Peacock Network.
Kickoff time and TV information for Oregon's first three games:
Aug. 31: Idaho at Oregon, 430pm Pacific on Big Ten Network
Sept. 7: Boise State at Oregon, 7pm Pacific on Peacock
Sept. 14: Oregon at Oregon State, 1230pm Pacific on FOX
Why Peacock becomes a factor
Peacock shows up in Oregon's 2024 football broadcast schedule as part of the Big Ten contract with NBC.
Peacock is a streaming service owned by NBC, carrying TV shows, movies, news, and live sports. The Big Ten broadcast contract with Peacock includes exclusive TV rights for selected Big Ten football games. Moving forward, Oregon fans will contend with a mix of B1G football broadcasters including the Big Ten Network, FS1, CBS, FOX, NBC, Peacock, Paramount+ and the FOX Sports app.
The company line is that exclusive Peacock game broadcasts aim to increase accessibility for viewers — But for Oregon fans that sounds like quite a stretch.
Oregon has enjoyed growing exposure over the past 20-plus years; Paramount+ and Peacock will be new expenses for Oregon fans.
Here’s the FansEdge-5 — five options for fans to catch Oregon games shown on networks they may have never used before:
1. Get seats and be there in person:
If you still need seats at Autzen, tickets are always listed on the reseller sites.
2. Schedule a watch party with friends:
As soul-nourishing as game days at Autzen can be, in-person isn’t an option for everyone on any given Saturday. If you're the friend with a Peacock subscription, maybe you host. If you're the friend without Peacock, share the love with a potluck dish or a tasty beverage. As long as it's game day, an Oregon tailgate can happen anywhere Ducks Nation watches the team serve up "Never rains," the 'Shout' and mascot pushups.
3. Find a Ducks-friendly pub:
There's an Oregon sports bar in most towns on the west coast these days. Call ahead and ask if they have the Peacock Network and plan to show the Sept. 7 Oregon game. The right venue and some Oregon gear might just earn you a new flock.
4. Head to an alumni watch party:
Many major cities across the nation have active UO Alumni Association chapters that organize Ducks watch parties for Oregon grads. If you’re a member of the UO Alumni Association, check their emails for links to information about your local chapter.
5. Watch Oregon on Peacock:
Watching an Oregon game from the comfort of home lets you share your favorite team with your favorite people in your favorite place.
Wherever you watch, join us in the live-score thread on game days in our Facebook group for real-time updates on every Oregon touchdown. Ducks fans are especially active in our Facebook community on Oregon game days, and the team publishes Oregon news every week of the year; every day of the season.
That’s the FansEdge-5 — thanks for reading!
